Every episode required a different look for Rita Ora on The Voice Australia TV Series 2021 for Channel 7. This time Rita wore a lace up black dress – this was a hot look and Rita looked outstanding in it. Kate Darvill (AGENT: B&A ) was the head stylist for Rita on The Voice. Kate is a contributing fashion editor for Australian Vogue Magazine.

Rita Ora – The Voice Australia 2021

Lok Lau (AGENT: WWW.mapltd.com/artist/loklau) is the hairdresser that I was working with on Rita. Such a talent and pleasure to work with. Lok is originally from New Zealand. He also worked in London as a very much in demand editorial fashion hairdresser. After having a family, he headed to Australia were he now works as a high fashion hairdresser.

It’s so important for the makeup artist and hairdresser to work together stylistically. We talk it out, brainstorm ideas and come up with the best hair and makeup look to suit Rita and her outfit.

Lok’s choice to do a soft curly up do was perfection, and it allowed me to give the makeup some strength.

WINGED BLACK LINER AND A VERY MATTE RED LIP – A classic look that executed correctly is very cool!

To keep this look modern, don’t over draw in the brows – give them shape, but not too dark or too sharp. A nod to that dark fifties shaped brow is all you need.

Eyeliner – just line the top of the eye lid, nothing underneath the eye – keep that light and fresh.

The shape of the eyeliner only needs to wing slightly upwards. Give it an angle but not a sharp right angle – a slight bend upwards makes it modern.

That matte red lip is what will make this look JUMP – it balances the sharp lines of the black dress and winged liner.
Make it matte – no shine at all – that gives depth and richness to the red of the lipstick.

To finish up and add lightness to the face I lightly dust some shimmer to cheekbones eyelids and nose bone. Now our superstar is ready to hit the stage.

Key Products – Rita’s Modern Fifties Look

Brows – bush brows up and into your desired shape. I used ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS – Brow Freeze to hold the brows in place.
I filled in any gaps with AMY JEAN – Brow Velvet Duo 02.
I then fine-tuned the brow with AMY JEAN – Micro Stroke Pencil 02 this allowed me to fill in and fine tune the shape.

Eyeliner – MAC COSMETICS – FLUIDLINE
With a fine brush, I lined the eye lids working my way outwards to the desired shape.
Once I’m happy with the shape I go over the line with the TOM FORD – Eye defining Pen. This makes that line very dark and really holds it in place.

Curl the lashes – I love Shu Umura’s Eyelash Curler.

I added a good coat of mascara DIOR – Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara in black.

I’m loving an Australian fake eyelash company – SLASHED has really luxurious 3D silk lashes lots of different shapes and styles.
On Rita for this look I used Slashed Lashes style: Gina.

Lips – First line the lips with NARS – Precision lip Liner – in Jungle Red – a classic Red. I like to over draw the lips very slightly.

I then took a small lip brush and painted a very matte classic red to Rita’s lips with Linda Jefferyes LIQLIPSâ„¢ – Classic Red 329 Matte Liquid Lipstick – this is a high pigmented liquid lipstick with incredible staying power and very dense in colour.

Finally, to add that Superstar sparkle I lightly dusted the eyelids, the top of the cheek bones and nose bone with DIOR BACKSTAGE – Glow Face Palette – Shade 001 Universal.
